Types of Luxury Vinyl Tile Flooring

Feb 03,20231

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a versatile flooring product that can mimic many wood and stone looks. The multiple layers of a LVT floor offer stability, durability and waterproofing.

The core is made of a strong but flexible polyvinyl chloride called PVC. The core is then layered with a vinyl layer and a clear wear layer. This combination makes the product highly resistant to scuffs, scratches and water damage.

There are several different types of LVT available, each engineered with specific needs in mind for different spaces. These include:

Rigid Core Click: This LVT has a thicker and more rigid construction than traditional click products. It also provides better resistance to indentations, dimensional stability, and added comfort-under-foot.

WPC: Originally introduced in the US, WPC had issues with product construction and dimensional stability. The newer SPC or solid polymer core construction fixes these issues and is now the norm in LVT.

Loose Lay: This LVT version is a thicker product versus glue down (typically 5.0mm). Manufacturers promote loose lay LVT in smaller spaces with minimal rolling loads since it requires minimal adhesive around the perimeter of the room, but in applications with heavy foot traffic or rolling loads, manufacturers recommend a full spread of adhesive.

Luxury vinyl flooring is an extremely durable, easy-to-clean and beautiful floor that is a great alternative to traditional hardwood and laminate floors. This type of flooring is available in many different colors, patterns and styles to fit any design scheme. It’s also an excellent choice in bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens and more, as it’s 100% waterproof!
